Activism and Leadership Programs

*MARIPOSA

Junior High & High School Young Women

“Empowering young women to discover their full potential through self-awareness and cultural enrichment”

“No dreamer is ever too small; no dream is ever too big.”

Mariposa is a gender- specific and culturally comprehensive program designed for middle school and high school girls. The workshops provided encourage girls to look within themselves and allow the process of change to take its course. There are many interpretations of the deep symbolism that the butterfly embodies. The essence of transformation as a result to metamorphosis is universal. Just like a butterfly, girls will go through distinct changes physically, mentally and socially while developing into young women.

Mariposa, seeks to provide guidance and introduce girls to local resources that will help find meaning to who they are and what they can become. In this program, girls will explore their history by looking at their heritage and gain pride through their own cultural awareness. The program provides opportunities for community involvement, mentor shadowing, leadership trainings and conferences.

A great deal of time is dedicated to receive guidance in academic, career, and life management. Mariposa also highlights the significance of expression and reflection through writing and art.

Please invite teens to come and take part in such unique and empowering program at Casa de la Raza.
